Nephrones

Nephrons are the filtration units of the body. They consist of the renal corpuscle, where blood is filtered to produce primary urine; the proximal tubule, where substances important to the body are recovered from the urine and substances are also released into the urine (for instance uric acid); the descending and ascending thin limbs of the loop of Henle, where water is recovered from the urine; and the distal tubule, where salt and water are recovered from the urine. Between the straight proximal and distal tubules are the descending and ascending thin limbs of the loop of Henle, where water is recovered from the urine and the urine is concentrated.
